 Isabelle's Journal:

Day 1(Dec. 3)

At first I tried to research the bacteria, leuconostoc mesenteroides,on Encyclopedia Britannica,  but nothing came up. After that I decided to try Gale Group and Proquest Group, but nothing relative came up for the habitat. Then I googled it this website came up: http://genome.jgi-psf.org/draft_microbes/leume/leume.home.html. On this website, I was able to find out about Leuconostoc mesenteroides' habitat and basic facts that weren't relevant to what I was researching. Then I also clicked on the website: http://aem.asm.org/cgi/content/full/66/1/422, but all that came up was information that we had already found. Then I found another website and I was able to find what temperatures this bacteria grows under. So then copied and pasted the information i had gathered from these websites and put it on "Isabelle's Notes."

Day 2(Dec. 4)

Today in class, my partner and I went over a timeline and wrote what we would like to have accomplished for each day. After that, I added a Timeline link to the sidebar and typed in what we should be accomplishing for each day. Later, I skimmed over the notes I had taken on habitat. Then I went back to the websites I had found the information on to see if I could gather any more. I was able to find a little more from the first website listed above, about how they are able to adapt to a variety of different conditions. Once I did that, I tried Encyclopedia Britannica again, but I still found nothing. I searched more on Google, but none of the additional information I found was relevant to the subject of “habitat" so I decided to leave it as I had it.

Day 3 (Dec. 5)

Today in class, Ms. Jansen taught us how to tell if the website we're getting information from is reliable or not. Then, at home, I tried googling about leuconostoc mesenteroides' name to see how it got it, but could not find anything, except that its scientific name is still Leuconostoc mesenteroides. I then tried researching about whether it is aerobic or anaerobic and tried several websites with varying answers. So I decided to look on the first website I have listed in this journal and it said that is was anaerobic, so I decided to trust it. I found some information on the scientific classification from Wikipedia.

Day 4(Dec.6)

Today in class, Mrs. Rasmussen explained to the class the directions of the Antibiotic Sensitivity Lab. Then we were given time to work on our website, so my partner and I used some of the websites we had used for earlier research to complete the fun facts section of our web page. Since we finished the fun facts in class, we decided to move on to the weekend's homework; reproduction and history and nutrition and benefits.

Day 5(Dec. 7-9)

I was not in class today because I had to go to Colorado. I know that in class we ended up just working on the Antibiotic Sensitivity Lab because it had been delayed.

Today I decided to work on the nutritional requirements first. I googled it and tried several websites, but none of them said whether Leuconostoc mesenteroides was an autotroph, chemautotroph, or a heterotroph. Finally, on Wikipedia something came up that hinted at leuconostoc mesenteroides being a heterotroph. Then, I decided to work on the beneficial properties section. I googled it, but couldn't find anything, so I used one of the previous websites to explain how it is beneficial to humans. I was unable to find how it is beneficial to plants, animals, and other fungus.

Day 6(Dec. 10)

Today in class, my partner wasn't there, but that worked out okay, because we ended up just working on our Antibiotic Sensitivity Lab anyway. Since I wasn't in class Friday to get assigned to my team, but today Mrs. Rasmussen put me with one. Basically all we did in class today was work on our Antibiotic Sensitivity Lab and I got to finish some of my analysis. Then later the day, I got to finish all of the research part and finish the lab. Tonight, my assignment was to find out about any recent research of Leuconostoc Mesenteroides. First I tried Google and I found a few articles that made sense, but were dated from 1999 or 2000, so I decided that I shouldn't use them. Then, I found an article that was from 2007, but I had some trouble understanding it. So I decided to try Yahoo, but still similar websites came up, so I tried some news and science websites but still nothing came up. I decided to just use this article about sauerkraut fermentations, until I could find more.

Day 7(Dec. 11)

Today in class I asked Mrs. Rasmussen a few questions about our website and some information and then she suggested that my partner and I did some research on pickles and sauerkraut. I offered to do pickles and Samantha did sauerkraut. I googled pickles and I found one website that had all of the different types of pickles and how they were made, so I decided to use that. I researched pickles for the rest of the class. I then decided to get pictures of each of the different types of pickles.

Day 8(Dec. 12)

Today I did not attend class because I had to attend an orthodontist appointment, but I hear that all we did in class today was work on our lab report. I just checked spelling and punctuation on the website.

Day 9(Dec. 13)

Today in class, we worked on the lab, so tonight I mainly worked on my lab report. Later, I gathered together some vocabulary from the website and made a vocabulary page with vocab. words and definitions. After that, I checked more spelling and punctuation on the website.
